New Delhi,: The second day of the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha commenced on Tuesday with the remaining newly elected members taking oath as members of the House.
Actor-turned politician Sunny Deol took oath as member of the House.
As soon the House assembled, Protem Speaker Virendra Kumar administered the oath to the new lawmakers.
The Secretary General of Lok Sabha Snehlata Shrivastava said three hundred names of the newly elected MPs were read out on Monday.
‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ slogan was raised in the treasury bench when Actor-turned politician Sunny Deol, took oath as member of the House.
The BJP Gurdaspur MP from Punjab who was dressed in blazer, a white shirt and jeans took his oath in English.
Sunny Deol, who is a first-time MP had defeated Suni Jakhar of the Congress by a margin of 82,459 votes from Gurdaspur seat.
While taking oath, there was a slip of tongue by the Actor-turned politician as
he had said, ‘withhold the sovereignty and integrity of the country’ instead of ‘uphold the
sovereignty and integrity of the country’, but he immediately corrected it.
Other members elected from Punjab mostly took oath in Punjabi language.
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Aam Aadmi Party’s MP Bhagwant Mann were among the other leaders from Punjab who took oath as members on the second day of the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha.
