President condoles death of actor Girish Karnad

New Delhi, :  President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday condoled the demise of the renowned playwright, actor and theater personality, Girish Karnad.
Karnad passed away on Monday morning.
He was 81 and was ailing from respiratory related problems.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the President said,’Sad to hear of the passing of Girish Karnad, writer, actor and doyen of Indian theatre. Our cultural world is poorer today. My condolences to his family and to the many who followed his work’.
Karnad was a contemporary writer, and contributed in a big way to the Kannada as well as Indian Theatre.
He was born in 1938 in Maharashtra’s Matheran, had his elementary education in Uttarakannada and Dharwad district in Karnataka and had also worked as a visiting professor in Chicago University.
He was conferred with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to the literary, theatre and cinema world.
