Court convicts six, acquits one in Kathua gangrape case

Jammu, :  A Pathankot Court on Monday convicted six accused persons in the much publicised Kathua gangrape case.
However, quantum of punishment will also be announced late afternoon.
The judgment came after 16 months of trial.
The Court convicted Sanji Ram, who was believed to be the master-mind in the case and priest of the Devasthan in village Rasana at Hiranagar in Kathua district of J&K.
Other accused persons convicted are Deepak Khajuria, Surinder Josh, Head Constable Tilak Raj, Anand Ditta and Pravesh.
Meanwhile, Vishal Jalgotra has been acquitted on benefit of doubt.
Out of six, four were convicted under section 201 of IPC (Destruction of evidence).
Acquitted Vishal is nephew of Mastermind Sanji Ram and given benefit of doubt as it was reported that he was in Meerut to appear in examination at the time of incident.
The trial of the case ended on June 30.
An eight-yr-old girl of Rasana Mohara, Hiranagar, district Kathua was abducted on Jan 10, 2018 and her body was found on January 17.
