Srinagar, : Train service was suspended for security reasons on Friday in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike in protest against civilian and militant killings during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
“We have suspended train service in the Kashmir valley after receiving a fresh advisory from police on Thursday evening,” a railway official told UNI.
He said no train will run on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
Similarly, no train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track, he said.
Official said that the railway department is acting on the advice of local administration, particularly police, who are taking decision to suspend train service keeping in view safety and security of passengers and railway property and officials. In the past railway property suffered huge damage due to protests and demonstrations.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a strike against killings of civilians and militants during holy month in Kashmir and Bhaderwah in Jammu region.
