UP govt misusing its power to influence polls in Azamgarh: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow,  : Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who is contesting from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat, on Saturday alleged misuse of power by the BJP government and using ‘Red Card’ against his party leaders and workers.
Polling in Azamgarh would be held on Sunday where Akhilesh Yadav is pitted against Bhojpuri actor and BJP actor Dinesh Lal Yadav, alias Niruha, in a direct fight.
Mr Yadav, in a statement here, alleged that BJP wants to win through ‘Red Card’.
“Officers have been instructed to issue as much Red Cards as possible to Samajwadi Party workers in Azamgarh,” he alleged.

Mr Yadav said that SP-BSP workers are being issued Red Cards and they’re being stopped from casting votes.
“We had complained to EC about the same last time it happened in Kannauj. Will be doing the same today also. Will Red Cards be issued to SP-BSP only? Is everyone in BJP clean, is there no one with a criminal background who was issued Red Card? BJP is conspiring to scare people so that they don’t cast their votes,” he said.
During the Kannauj polls held in the fourth phase, several SP leaders and workers were issued Red Cards by the district authorities preventing them from going out of their houses on the polling day.
Meanwhile, a dispute broke out between the SP and the Azamgarh district authorities before the end of the campaigning when the SP cancelled all the four election meetings of Akhilesh Yadav citing conspiracy by the authorities.
