Traffic resumes on Mughal road after 5 months

Srinagar,:  One-way traffic resumed on Wednesday on the historic 86-km-long Mughal road after remaining suspended for about five months due to accumulation of snow, traffic police official said.
The road, which connects Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was closed in December last year due to accumulation of five to eight feet of snow, particularly at Pir-ki-Gali. However, snow clearance operation was started simultaneously from Rajouri, Poonch and Shopian in March.
Snow clearance operation was complete and traffic was allowed to ply from today, the official told UNI.
He said only Kashmir-bound vehicles will be allowed to ply today and no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction. People travelling on the road have been requested to contact traffic official before starting journey.
The authorities have already approved construction of a tunnel to make it an all weather road, which is seen as an alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
