Varanasi, : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that a pro-incumbency wave was being seen in the country for the first time since Independence and that the entire country wants ‘Modi sarkar’ again.
Addressing BJP booth workers before filing his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 from Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Modi said, ‘I have been travelling across the country since the past one and half months and gauging the elections. I, Amit Shah, and Yogi Adityanath are just karyakartas (workers), it is the people who are fighting the elections this time. People have made up their mind. It is first time in history that this type of election is being fought.’
‘The political pundits, after the polls, will be analysing how the nation is witnessing a ‘pro-incumbency’ wave for the first time after independence. The entire country wants ‘Modi sarkar’ again,’ he added.
‘There is a pro-incumbency wave. We are grateful for this extreme love citizens have showered upon us. This is the an amalgamation of BJP workers’ hard-work and people’s love. Yesterday’s turnout was heaven-sent for me,’ the Prime Minister said.
Saying that Kashi had already been won, he said the other work left was to win the polling booth.
He told BJP workers at Varanasi that it is their responsibility to win all the polling booths.
Mr Modi said, ‘There are two sides of this election: One is to win Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, this work has been done yesterday. Kashi is already won. Now the other work is left and that is to win the polling booth. There should not be one polling booth where the flag of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) falls flat. To win polling booths is your (BJP workers) responsibility. ‘
‘I will not enjoy winning the polls if my workers lose at any of the booths. There should only be one ‘mantra’ at present that is Mera booth, sabse mazboot. (My booth, the strongest). Today after filing the papers, you have to do nothing, Modi wins or loses, whatever happens to Modi, Ganga Maiyya will see, but any worker of the polling booths should not lose. I won’t feel bad if I lose but if BJP worker’s hard -work loses, I will feel bad,’ the Prime Minister added.
He also asked the party workers at Varanasi to break all the previous voting records.
Mr Modi also hit out at opposition over the violence in Kerala and West Bengal where BJP party workers are allegedly attacked.
Mr Modi told party workers that when a party worker goes out of home in these states, he tells his mother that he is going out for the party and if he doesn’t return alive, then send his younger brother for the party work from tomorrow.
Mr Modi emphasised that in politics friendship is important but it is now ending, hence there is a need to restore it.
He said after tomorrow, the media will not be interested in the Varanasi polls as they will not get anymore TRPs as they believe that Modi has won already.
Counselling the BJP workers how to campaign without any expenses, PM Modi said, “I want to tell you how to cut costs. Every party worker should be responsible for 10 families. Start visiting homes of these voters (as a part of door-to-door campaigns), have breakfast with them, they will offer you tea, you can read their newspaper. Without any expenses, you would be spreading the word”.
After addressing the party workers, the PM visited Kaal Bhairav Temple in Varanasi before filing his nomination papers.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, are expected to be in attendance when the PM files his nomination papers in Varanasi.
