BJP will get befitting reply this time: Congress

New Delhi, :  In a series of attacks launched at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over non-delivery of promises made in the previous general elections, the Congress on Friday accused him of betraying the people of Varanasi, saying that this time, voters will give a befitting reply to the ruling dispensation.
The attack came in the backdrop of Mr Modi filing his nomination from the city of temples on Friday and also carrying out a roadshow from the BHU gate to the ghats of river Ganga.
Addressing a press conference here, senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla said, ‘People of Varanasi and people of the Gangetic plains Ma Ganga shall never forgive and forget how PM, Shri Narendra Modi, has betrayed them. In these Lok Sabha elections, people of India shall give a befitting reply to BJP.’
Comparing Mr Modi’s act with Joseph Goebbels theory of propaganda, Mr Shukla said, ‘Today, Modiji has once again filed his nomination from the holy city of Varanasi. Yesterday, we saw that there were only ‘Optics,’ to hide the ‘Outcome’.
‘Today, PM Modi put a stamp of approval on our assessment. In an address to his workers, he said that if BJP workers see that he has spoken something wrong in his interviews, they must make loud noises in order to brush to hide the truth,’ he added.
‘This is a theory widely propagated by Joseph Goebbels- If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it,’ Mr Shukla pointed out.
Highlighting the promises that Mr Modi failed to serve in his constituency, the Congress leader said, ‘The slurries, the gurgle dark black sewage into the Ganga, littered with plastic, carcasses and trash, the indescribable stink, kicks up from this toxic cocktail that also hides germs passed through human and animal excrement in Varanasi sings the sordid saga of utter neglect by the Modi government.
On Thursday, in her maiden press conference at the national level, Congress Spokesperson Ragini Nayak had said Mr Modi had failed the 1.5 crore people of Varanasi.
‘We spoke about 5 big failures– (i) Failure to Clean Maa Ganga(ii) Demolishing the Cultural Heritage of Varanasi
(iii) Turning Kashi into Kyoto = JUMLA,
(iv) Betraying the Weavers, Artisans and Handicraft workers
(v) PM’s ‘Aadarsh Gram’= FLOP
Based on the feedback of people of Varanasi, we want to expose some other important failures of Modiji and his sordid saga of betrayal of Varanasi,” Mr Shukla added.
