Nirmala Sitharaman calls on Tharoor at Medical College hospital

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 16  : Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was in this capital city for election campaign, on Tuesday called on Congress-led UDF Candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha Constituency, Shashi Tharoor at Medical College hospital here where he was admitted after sustaining head injury.
In a tweet, Tharoor said “Touched by the gesture of @nsitharaman, who dropped by today morning to visit me in the hospital, amid her hectic electioneering in Kerala. Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics – great to see her practice it by example!
Meanwhile, LDF candidate C Divakaran also called on his opponent candidate at the hospital.
In a tweet, Tharoor said “Very gracious of my LDF rival C.Divakaran to call this morning to express concern about my well-being. Said he had spoken to the Hospital Superintendent to assure himself I would be ok. “Don’t be demoralised”, he added. I’m not: I’m more determined than ever to see this through!”
The 63-year-old Tharoor sustained a head injury while performing ‘Thulabharam’ at Gandhari Amman temple here on Monday.
Later, he was admitted to the General Hospital from where he was referred to Medical College hospital for detailed examination. Though his condition is out of danger, repeated scan images of his head are being examined by an expert medical team, hospital sources said.
However, he was shifted to ICU to avoid people visiting him, sources added.
Thulabharam is a practice in temples preforming weighing one against materials and offering to God. He performed Thulabharam with Sugar, according to MLA VS Shivakumar, who was also with Tharoor when the incident occurred.
Tharoor was injured when the iron rod of a balance in which he was sitting broke down. The rod fell on his head causing injury on his head.
