Mitra Shakti: Sri Lankan Army officer interacts with Indian troops

New Delhi, Mar 30  :The joint military exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ between India and Sri Lanka on Saturday entered into fourth day at the Diyatalab parade ground in Budalla district of Sri Lanka.
On Friday, Sri Lankan Army’s Colonel of the Gemunu Watch Regiment and Commander, Security Force East Maj Gen KPA Jayasekera visited the location of the exercise and interacted with the Indian Army’s contingent.
The Sri Lankan military officer attended a combined lecture organised by both the armies on tenets of counter-terrorism.
He was later presented with a memento by the commanding officer of the Indian Army contingent as a token of ongoing strategic partnership between both countries.
This is the sixth edition of exercise Mitra Shakti and is being conducted to further cement the defence ties between both the neighbouring nations.
The exercise involves practicing tactical level operations in an international Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorist environment under UN mandate.
The Indian Army is being represented by the 1st Battalion The BIHAR Regiment (BATALIK) and the Sri Lankan Army by their 1 Gemunu Watch Battalion.
The Indian Army contingent is led by Col Parthasarathy Roy, Commanding Officer,1st Battalion The BIHAR Regiment (BATALIK).
The drill will conclude on April 8.
