Chowkidar giving sleepless nights to Cong, terrorists: Modi
Guwahati, Mar 30 : Claiming that his government has lived up to the expectations of the people in the last five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today maintained that the ‘chowkidar’ is giving sleepless nights to the Congress family and terrorists.
Listing out the developmental activities undertaken by the BJP-led NDA government in the Centre in the last five years for Assam at an election rally at Moran in eastern part of the state, Modi asked the public if they were satisfied with his performance.
“I want to ask you whether this chowkidar has lived up to your expectations? Are you happy with this chowkidar?” Modi questioned the mammoth crowd, which responded with a thunderous applause.
“But there are some people who cannot sleep at night any more. One is the Congress family and the second are the terrorists,” he added.
Modi, on his first visit to the state after declaration of election, was campaigning for BJP candidates for Dibrugarh and Jorhat Parliamentary constituencies, sitting MP Rameswar Teli and state minister Topon Kumar Gogoi respectively.
Predicting a sure victory for the BJP and its allies in the ensuing General Elections, the PM claimed that total silence will prevail in the Congress after April 11, when the polling will commence.
Referring to the Balakot air strikes, Modi said, “For the first time, we entered the terrorists home and killed them. Did you like it? Are you happy and satisfied? But the Congress is worried. The whole world stood with India, but the Congress became sleepless.”
“When we test fired the Anti-Satellite Missile, we became the fourth country to do it. Are you happy? But the Congress’ eyes were filled with tears,” he said.
“The people have to decide now. Do you want a ‘damdar sarkar’ (strong government) or a ‘dagdar sarkar’ (tainted government)? Do you want a decisive government or one that gives mere slogans?” Modi questioned the public, as the crowd responded with continued applause and cheering.
Mentioning his government’s focus on Assam and North East, the prime minister said, “India can be strong only when Assam and NE is strong. We have been working for it. I have tried to do in five years what they (Congress) couldn’t do in 70 years. When I win again and receive the people’s mandate for next five years, I won’t sleep or celebrate. But I will work with the same vigour.”
Without naming the Congress, he further said,“They hate chowkidars and chaiwalas. First I thought, they are targeting only this chaiwala, but after touring the country, I have realized that they never acknowledged the existence and contribution of the people related to the tea industry, be it in Assam or West Bengal or anywhere else.”
“Only a chaiwala can understand the problems of another chaiwala,”Modi added, targeting the tea garden workers who form a major chunk of voters in both the Parliamentary constituencies, both of which are currently held by the BJP.
“This chaiwala is committed to give you a dignified life,” he said, while mentioning the schemes undertaken for the tea tribes in particular.
He further said besides completing projects that were pending for decades in the state, the NDA government has also launched several new projects and pumped in huge investments.
“The Assam Accord was kept hanging by the Congress, but we are trying to implement it. Six communities of the state had been demanding tribal status for long and our government is seriously considering, while also ensuring the benefits for the existing tribes are also not affected,”he added.
Extending his gratitude to the people for reposing faith in his government, Modi underlined a number of developmental schemes in the state, like, ensuring almost near complete electrification, providing LPG connections to 85 per cent of households, covering 27 lakh families under medical insurance of Rs 5 lakh each, 50 lakh MUDRA Bank loans for the unemployed, providing house to five lakh families, monetary assistance to 24 lakh farmers and Rs 3000 per month pension to workers of unorganized sector after 60 years of age.
Earlier, Modi began his speech in Assamese, extending his wishes on coming Rongali Bihu celebrations, marking the Assamese New Year, and paying tribute to the legends and heroes of the state.
The prime minister, who addressed an election rally in bordering Arunachal Pradesh earlier in the day, kick-starting his campaigning for North East, is scheduled to attend another rally at Gohpur in northern Assam today.
