Mob surrounds university hostel in Dehradun, threatens Kashmiri girls to vacate

Kashmiri girls studying at a university in Dehradun on Saturday said a mob had assembled outside their hostel and were threatening them to vacate.

“Please save us from these goons. They are threatening us to vacate the hostels. If we will go outside our rooms we will be attacked as they have surrounded our hostel,” said a distressed student.

The students said they had locked themselves in their rooms fearing attacks from the mob.

Meanwhile, over 200 students in Haryana have been thrown out of their rented accommodations. They have now taken refuge at a university hostel.

“The locals made announcements on public address systems and threatened us to vacate our accommodations. We have been thrown out on roads and now came to the University hostel,” said a student.

The frightened students are demanding their safety and appealed the state administration to come for their rescue.

Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai said the civil and police administration is all sounded and matter is being looked into.

A top police official said he has established a line of communication between the distressed students and the concerned SSP. “SSP Dehradun has confirmed to me that the issue has been resolved. Situation is under control,” he said.
