Governor, Minister of Road Transport and Highway review progress of Projects in J&K

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 13: A high level meeting, under the Chairmanship of Governor Satya Pal Malik was held at New Delhi.

Sh. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Officers, participated in the meeting.

Sh. BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, J&K; Sh. U.P Singh, Union Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Sh. Nagendra Nath Sinha, Managing Director, NHIDCL; Sh. Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Resident Commissioner J&K, Commissioner (Indus) and other senior officers from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Water Resources participated in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the progress of various ongoing Projects of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Water Resources in Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting was informed that the Rs. 5850.00 cr Ujh Multipurpose Project has already been approved by the CEC and Ministry of Water Resources. The Ministry of Water Resources was requested to get the PIB approval expeditiously so that the above mentioned project could start within this month.

Similarly the meeting discussed the status of approvals on Chenani-Sudhmahadev Road and Jammu-Akhnoor Road. It was mentioned that more than 90% of the land for both the projects stands handed over to NHIDCL. NHIDCL assured that the work on these two roads will be taken up within this month. Agreeing to Governor’s request of providing adequate compensation to farmers, whose lands are being acquired for the Jammu Ring Road Project, Sh. Gadkari assured that compensation rates for land acquired will be reviewed.

The meeting also discussed various issues relating to the implementation of prestigious Jammu & Srinagar Ring Roads, Zojila and Z Morh tunnels and took decisions for their speedy implementation, in the overall interest of the State.
