22 families shifted from avalanche-prone village in Kangan

Around 22 families were shifted from an avalanche-prone area to safer locations following heavy snowfall in Gund tehsil of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday.

An official said that twenty-two families of Khan Mohalla Ramwari in Gund tehsil of Kangan area were shifted to safer places.

They said that the locality is prone to snow avalanches and the step was taken as precautionary measure to avoid any loss of life.

Sheikh Tahir, SDPO Kangan told Greater Kashmir that 124 members of 22 families were shifted to Government Middle School Ramwari Gund and other safer places.

He said the rescue operation was launched with the help of 118 BN CRPF.
