Khan’s party and allies secure over 180 seats in NA: Chaudhry

Islamabad, Aug 9: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and its allies have secured over 180 seats in the National Assembly, a senior party leader said today, days after Imran Khan was nominated by his party for the next prime minister of Pakistan.

The party has already claimed to have crossed the magical figure of 172 required to secure simple majority in the 342-seat National Assembly.

After receiving support from Balochistan Awami Party-Mengal yesterday, the PTI and its allies have crossed the 180 seats mark in the National Assembly, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry tweeted in Urdu.

BNP-M agreed to extend its support to the PTI in the National Assembly as the two parties signed a deal that PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said would “strengthens viewpoints at the centre”, Geo TV reported.

Under the agreement between the two parties, the demographic identity of Balochistan will be preserved whereas dams will be built to curb the risk of relocation.

The PTI had earlier said it crossed the magical figure of 172 with the help of its coalition partners including Muttahida Qaumi Movement and several independently elected members, who joined the party in the days following the July 25 general elections. PTI
