85,944 unemployed youth register with Employment deptt in 2017-18 in J&K

Srinagar: As many as 85,944 unemployed youth have registered with the Labour and Employment department during the last fiscal year in Jammu and Kashmir, where 698 Self Help Groups (SHGs), involving 3147 engineers, are affiliated with the department.
An official spokesperson said that the department registered 85,944 unemployed youth during the last financial year, including 39,726 from Kashmir and 46218 from Jammu.
“There are 698 SHGs registered with the department involving 3147 engineers. As many as 1282 works have been allotted to these SHGs and Rs 115.89 crore have been allotted to the SHGs,” he said.
He said that during the last financial year, 30 job fairs were conducted at various districts in which 745 youth were offered jobs in various private sector companies, besides general awareness regarding various job avenues and Self Employment Schemes.
“The department released an amount of Rs 3.20 crore as revenue under various labour acts,” he added.
He said the department of labour disposes off at least 1126 cases during the last financial year under different acts including Workmen Compensation Act, Payment of Wages Act, Industrial Dispute Act, Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Gratuity Act while 1254 cases are still lying pending including the pendency from the previous years.
The official further informed that the department conducted 908 inspections to various factories under Factory Act during the previous fiscal and launched prosecution against 22 offenders.
The department also conducted 23558 inspections under different acts and launched prosecution against 1625 offenders while 1151 convictions also took place during the financial year 2017-18.
