Kupwara: Bear strays into residential area, captured

Kupwara, Dec 17: (GNS) A bear, strayed into a residential area in this north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, was captured on Thursday.

According to locals as well as wildlife department officials, the bear was on the prowl in the Wasia area for the last few days and had attacked several cattle. The wild animal had created panic among locals who informed the authorities.

“We received several complaints from locals about the presence of a bear. The wild animal had also attacked cattle,” an official of the wildlife department told GNS.

“The bear was later trapped in a cage by our officials,” he added.

This was the sixth such catch in Kupwara district this year. (GNS)
