HMT attack: 2 injured army soldiers succumb, Rifle missing

Srinagar, Nov 26 GNS): Two soldiers injured in a militant attack near HMT area of Srinagar district have succumbed to injuries, officials said.

(Militants) fired indiscriminately at Quick Reaction Team of Indian Army in general area Aban Shah Chowk, HMT, Khushipora, Srinagar today afternoon,” Col Rajesh Kalia, army’s Srinagar based spokesman said.

“Being a crowded area, troops exercised restraint to avoid any civilian causalities & collateral damage,” he said, adding, “Two soldiers were critically injured and were evacuated to the nearest medical facility.

However, they have succumbed to their injuries.” Area has been cordoned and search operation is in progress, he added.

The soldiers have been identified as Sepoy Ratan of 163 Battalion Territorial Army and Sepoy Deshmukh of 101 Battalion Territorial Army.
Meanwhile, sources told GNS that one rifle of army soldier was missing and militants having decamped it cannot be ruled out. (GNS)
