G CISF reviews security scenario of North Kashmir power project

Bandipora, Nov 10, KNT: Director General Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Tuesday visited dam site of Kishan Ganga Hydro Electric Power Project to review security scenario. This power project is located in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Official sources told News Agency KNT that
DG CISF Rajesh Ranjan reached Gurez by Army chopper. He visited Dam Site of Kishan Ganga Hydro electric project to review security situation.

The Kishanganga Hydroelectric Plant diverts water from the Kishanganga River (known as Neelum River in Pakistan administered Kashmir) to a power plant in the Jhelum River basin.

This power project has been handed over to CISF and they have been taking care of its security and safety. DG CISF interacted with CISF officers and security men. He also interacted with the officials during his visit.

Pertinently, construction on the dam was temporarily halted by the Hague’s Permanent Court of Arbitration (CoA) in October 2011 due to Pakistan’s protest of its effect on the flow of the river, however, in 2013, the Court ruled that India could divert water for power generation while ensuring flow of water too to the downstream to Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
