Advisor Baseer Khan visits Baramulla, inspects several dev projects

About 847 Projects underway, so far 1.1 lakh Mandays generated under MGNREGA in current fiscal: Director RDD

BARAMULLA, JUNE 08: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Khan today visited Baramulla district where he inspects several ongoing developmental projects undertaken in RDD sector while taking review over the pace and position of these works.

The visit was aimed to ensure that the developmental works are not affected due to COVID-19 lockdown.

District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo, Director Rural Development Department Kashmir Qazi Sarwar and other concerned officers were present.

On the occasion, Baseer Khan inspected various ongoing developmental works undertaken in Pattan, Sangrama, Sopore and at other places during which he was briefed by Director RDD about their status.

Director RDD informed the Advisor that about 847 works have been taken under MGNREGA, Convergence and 14th FC in district Baramulla among which about 145 works have been completed. He further informed that in these works, about 8965 labourers were engaged thereby generating about 1.1 lakh mandays.

Director further added that gradual restoration of labour intensive projects especially those under MGNREGA proved very beneficial in providing employment to the labour class.

He also said that all the COVID-19 related advisories which includes maintaining social distancing and wearing safety gears at working/project sites are being fully complied with.

While emphasizing upon the concerned agencies to mobilize all the available resources, Baseer Khan said that several measures have been taken by the administration which are aimed at socio-economic welfare of the people especially during the present circumstances.

He said that all possibilities are being explored in both urban as well as rural areas in this regard. Moreover, he directed to ramp up the pace of work so that the target is achieved within stipulated timeframe.

Appreciating the role of district administration in combating COVID-19 pandemic, Baseer Khan exhorted to accelerate action in fighting Coronavirus. He directed to involve various stakeholders including community and religious heads, PRIs, civil society members in this battle as they have a prominent role at the grass root level.

On the occasion, District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo enlisted various efforts taken in this regard on the part of district administration.

He informed that about 6 lakh face masks were distributed in rural areas as a move to minimize the risk of Coronavirus infection. DDC further added that administration has utilized the services of PRIs, NGOs, civil society members among other stakeholders of the society.
