Four militants killed in Shopian gunfight,Arms and ammunition recovered

Shopian, 8th June : A day after five militants, including a top Hizb commander were killed in the south Kashmir district Shopian, four more militants were killed in a gunfight that broke out between government forces and militants, in the district on early Monday morning,

An Army personnel was also seriously injured in a fierce encounter that broke out between government forces and militants in Pinjora village of Shopian district on early Monday morning.

A top police official, while confirming the killing of four militants in the encounter, said that upon receiving a credible information about the presence of the militants in the village, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir police, Army and CRPF, cordoned off Pinjora village and while the searches were going, militants hiding in a houses fired upon the forces, triggering a gunfight.

Officials also claimed to have recovered some arms and ammunition from the encounter site.

Meanwhile Director General J&K Police Dilbagh Singh said in a press conference that forces were successful in neutralising nine militants in 24 hours, which was a big success for forces and no collateral damage occurred during the operation.

“No house was damaged in the operation, nor was there any civilian causality”, he said.

Sources said that one army jawan was also seriously injured in the gunfight, who was been shifted to Hospital.
