Two militants killed in Kulgam gunfight

Srinagar, May 30,: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Wanpora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on early Saturday

According to CNS, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s 01 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a search operation in Wanpora village of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, after the security agencies were tipped-off about the presence of militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces was approaching the spot, where militants were hiding, it came under a heavy volley of fire from their side, which was retaliated by the forces triggering an encounter between the sides.

When reports last came in, police had confirmed the killing of two militants in the gunfight.

In its version issued in the afternoon the police said that on the night intervening 29/30 May 2020, a specific input was received by Kulgam Police about the presence of militants hiding in village Wanpora Khudwani area of District Kulgam.

It said, “Acting upon this input a joint search operation was launched by Kulgam Police, 1RR, and CRPF.”

The statement further said that as search parties drew closer to the suspected house, hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party. The fire was effectively retaliated in which two unidentified militants were neutralised.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter”, police statement said.

The statement further added that in this connection case with FIR No : 30/2020 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 A Act, 13,16,18,19,20,38 ULAP Act stands registered in police station Qaimoh and investigation set into motion.

Citizens were requested by police not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive material. Although bomb disposal squads of Kulgam Police have cleared the area of all stray explosives, people are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared. (CNS)
