Internet Restored in Budgam, Shopian, Pulwama

Srinagar, May 14 (GNS): The mobile internet services was restored on Thursday in Budgam district after remaining barred for more than a day following the killing of a youth in CRPF firing near Kawoosa crossing on Srinagar-Gulmarg road.

While police and CRPF said that the 25-year old Mehraj-u-din son Ghulam Muhammad of Makhama Beerwah Budgam was fired upon after he jumped two nakas, the family rebutted the claim, terming it a “cold-blooded murder.” The deceased’s uncle, an Assistant Sub-Inspector in J&K Police– who was accompanying the youth, was injured in the firing and is being treated at SMHS Hospital.

Meanwhile, the internet services, stopped following the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo and his associate at Beingpora Awantipora on May 6, have been also restored in Pulwama and Shopian districts, as per the reports reaching GNS.

While internet and calling services were barred across Kashmir Valley since May 6, they were restored couple of days ago but orders to end the ban in twin south Kashmir districts were held back by the authorities till late Wednesday night.

“Upon due assessment of the law and order situation in the districts of Pulwama and Shopian with due deference to the reports of the law enforcement agencies, I, Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, being satisfied, hereby direct that the Mobile data services shall be restored forthwith in the districts, restricting however the internet speed to 2G only, as is the case in other parts of J&K,” reads an order issued by the Home Department
