Economic Survey to be presented in Parliament on Thursday

New Delhi, :  Stage is set for the presentation of the first budget of the Narendra Modi government after it resumed power for the second time after polls that gave it a massive win.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union budget 2019-20 in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
The Economic Survey 2018-19 will be presented in Parliament on Thursday.
Ms Sitharaman will table the survey in both the Houses.
The Economic survey presented a day before the Union Budget gives out the status of the annual economic situation in the country.
The survey would also highlight policy initiatives of the government and a roadmap to further boost the economy.
It carries sectoral overviews and comments on reform measures that are required.
In view of farmers’ distress and protest in several states, this year’s Economic Survey is expected to recommend strategies on how to use technology and reduce regulations to bring markets closer to the farmers.
Ms Nirmala Sitharaman will be the second woman Finance Minister to present Budget in Parliament.
Indira Gandhi has been the only woman to have presented Budget for fiscal 1970-71.
The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had taken over the Finance portfolio following resignation of veteran Morarji Desai as the Finance Minister.
