Nawaz Sharif forbidden to have ‘any’ political meeting in jail

Islamabad, :  Former Pakistan prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has been denied to attend or conduct any political meeting at Kot Lakhpat jail, local media said on Thursday.
Nawaz is imprisoned in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail after an accountability court handed him a seven-year jail term in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference. Thursday has been allotted to the former prime minister as a meeting day with party leaders and family members at the prison.
According to Geo TV, jail authorities cancelled Nawaz’s meetings on government orders. He is, however, expected to be only allowed to meet family members.
Sources further said PML-N leaders were expected to meet Nawaz and brief him regarding the All Parties’ Conference (APC).
Last month, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl had announced that he would call the APC after Eid-ul-Fitr. “After Eid-ul-Fitr, we will host all political parties and a consensus stance would be decided on which there will be consensus strategy. We will then take steps in line with this strategy,” the JUI-F chief had said in a video message.
The decision to hold the APC was taken during an Iftar dinner hosted by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chair Bilawal Bhutto and attended by Opposition leaders, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz.
