Let’s get going this Yoga day!

New Delhi, : ‘Yoga’ which actually means “to attach or join” — signifies the union of body and mind.
It recognises that body and mind are not separate entities, but interdependent and interlinked. Modern research has also shown that it is based on scientific principles.
The thrust of the International Yoga Day observation on June 21 is on harmonious mass Yoga demonstrations, in which millions of people participate, at thousands of venues.
Ministry of AYUSH is the nodal Ministry for observation of International Day of Yoga across the country and to ensure that Yoga demonstrations of such large groups take place in a harmonious fashion.
AYUSH has also successfully organised several programmes during the last four years in connection with IDY. This year also several small and big events are being planned on the occasion of IDY.
Ahead of International Yoga Day, Ministry of AYUSH has also launched Yogalocator app to disseminate information for all beneficiaries. It is a map-based app which’ll give information about yoga activities happening in their vicinity. Yoga instructors can also register themselves and reach out to a large number of people.
Some of the most accomplished yoga gurus of India have come together and developed a Common Yoga Protocol. This is essentially a specified sequence of Yoga Asanas of 45 minutes’ duration. “Yoga is popular everywhere, because of its increasing significance in the present lifestyle, in terms of helping people increase vitality and reduce stress”, said a Yoga trainer.
Shahnaz Husain, Founder, Chairperson & Managing Director, Shahnaz Husain Group feels the best thing about Yoga is that it does not need any equipment and can be done anywhere.
‘I have been practicing Yoga every morning for a long time and continue with it even when I am travelling abroad. One of the aspects which appeals to me is that it involves breath control and specifies the inhalation and exhalation of breath during the exercise. I have found it to be ideal for relieving fatigue, calming the mind and bringing about total relaxation,’ she said.
Experts feel that the ‘Asanas’ involve static positions and a particular pose which is supposed to be held for a prescribed duration of time. During this time, the mind is also disciplined, as it concentrates on the particular parts of the body.
Health and fitness guru believe Yoga has proved to be an inseparable part in modern life, because it is the way to achieve symphony of body, mind and soul. It not only taught people to control their mind, but also to attain knowledge of the inner self.
