EVM tempering: Why now, why not when Cong won assembly polls? asks Shah
Kodinar (Gujarat), Apr 15 : Hitting out at Indian National Congress (INC) party and its president Rahul Gandhi for raising ‘tempering’ of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) issue again, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah here on Monday questioned why INC did not raised the voice when it won assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattishgrah.
Addressing an election rally here, the BJP national president said, “Congress is saying that BJP will win due to EVMs. Recently Congress itself won the assembly elections in three states– Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh– and EVMs were used there too. Why Congress formed government in those states and took oath. Wherever they win, the EVMs are good and in case of defeat this machines become malfunctioning.”
“Congress and Rahul were speaking ‘lies after lies’ as they have become ‘fearful’ of imminent ‘defeat’. So far just one phase of election has happened and they have started the blame-game on EVM,” he further said.
On Rafale deal, Mr Shah alleged that Mr Gandhi lied about a recent order of the Supreme Court about Rafale matter and has now been summoned by the court to give clarification. “The court only removed a preliminary objection and Rahul said that it has hit out at the government which was not correct. Later BJP MP Meenaxi Lekhi approached the court and now Rahul has been given notice to answer,” he said.
The BJP president also sought an apology from Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party for the ‘indecent’ comment by their candidate on Rampur LS seat Azam Khan against BJP candidate and actress Jaya Prada terming it as an “insult of crores of women in the country.”
Mr Shah also said that Mr Gandhi should make his stand clear about Azam Khan’s ‘indecent’ remarks against Ms Prada.
On national security, the BJP president said that after Pulwama terror attack Pakistan had sealed its land borders with tanks and canons and everybody was wondering how a surgical strike would be conducted. “On the 13th day from the terror attack, the Indian Air Force conducted an aerial strike and destroyed terrorist camp in Pakistan and there were celebrations all over the country while mourning in Pakistan,” he said.
“But there was mourning like scene in the Congress office also. It seemed as if they have lost their own family men. Party leader Sam Pitroda said that there should not be such an action for the act of four to five people,” he alleged.
“Should there not be a tough action for martyring our 40 jawans,” he asked.
“Rahul baba, if you have to do ILU-ILU with terrorists you can do but BJP government would give them befitting reply,” the BJP leader alleged.
The phrase ILU-ILU comes from a bollywood movie song which apparently means “I Love You”.
Mr Shah also attacked Mr Gandhi for his ‘silence’ on a statement of National Conference leader Omar Abdullah seeking a separate Prime Minister for Kashmir. He alleged that Rahul was ‘quite’ for the sake of “vote-bank politics”.
“Should anyone support such a party which puts on stake the unity and integrity of the country,” Mr Shah alleged.
“So long as even a single BJP worker was alive no one can separate Kashmir from India,” he claimed.
Mr Shah talked at length about various achievements of Modi government including giving constitutional statue to OBC commission and 10 per cent quota for poor people of non-reserved communities.
The BJP president claimed that the biggest achievement of the current dispensation was making the country secure. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi alone can ensure the security of the country.
He also appealed the people of Gujarat to make BJP victorious on all the 26 seats of the state. “Looking at the scenario, during poll time, Narendrabhai’s return to power was sure,” he claimed.
In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, all the 26 seats of Gujarat were bagged by the BJP. Voting will be conducted in the state for all the seats in the third phase of polling on 23 April.
