Srinagar witness strict restrictions, JRL condemns genocide of Kashmiri youth

SRINAGAR, SEP 28 : Strict restrictions were imposed in parts of Srinagar city including old city in nwake of the shutdown call given by Joint Resistance Leadership against killing of a youth by forces on Thursday.

Reports said a large contingent of police personnel were deployed in city putting restrictions on peoples movement.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Thursday called for a complete shutdown on Friday to protest against the civilian killing and frequent CASO’s in the Valley especially in South Kashmir.

JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued here condemned the ‘the fresh wave of selective genocide of Kashmiri youth’ that once again resulted in the killing of an innocent civilian at Noorbagh area of Srinagar in the wee hours of Thursday.

The trio also condemned the fresh arrest spree of resistance leadership in the name of creating environment for civic polls and the frequent CASO’s across the length and breadth of Kashmir, especially south Kashmir and called for a complete shutdown and protests on September 28 (Friday).

Meanwhile police detained Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence while chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik was shifted to Kothibagh police station.

A spokesperson of Hurriyat (M) said that a contingent of forces reached the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz and informed him that he was under house detention.

Mirwaiz was scheduled to address the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

According to JKLF spokesman a contingent of police cordoned Malik’s residence in the wee hours and arrested him from Maisuma and was shifted to Kothibagh police station.

Pertinently, the Joint Resistance Leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik have called for a shutdown today on Friday against the “barbaric” killing of civilians and the arrest spree of resistance activists.    (PTK)
